OAGS, Accountant General, and WFP Meet Together to Strengthen Transparency in Social Assistance Programmes

Mogadishu,  August 27, 2025: The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia today hosted a meeting attended by senior officials from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Office of the Accountant General of the government. The meeting focused on the results of the 2024 Financial Audit and the implementation of the Auditor General’s recommendations, with particular emphasis on the Baxnaano Project funded by the World Bank.

The meeting discussed in detail the process of sharing beneficiary data and the verification of payments recorded in the 2024 Federal Government of Somalia Financial Report. In addition, the WFP Country Director for Somalia, El Khidir Daloum Mohamud Ahmed, provided an explanation of WFP’s internal control systems, financial procedures, and implementation plan, highlighting the World Food Programme’s readiness and commitment to effectively and efficiently cooperate with the institutions of the Federal Government of Somalia.

Following constructive analysis and discussion, the Auditor General, the Accountant General, and WFP agreed to establish a technical committee that will include the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The committee will work on providing technical input regarding the process of sharing beneficiary data for the Baxnaano Social Assistance Project and ensuring the implementation of all recommendations of the Auditor General.

The Auditor General, Ahmed Isse Gutale, and the Accountant General, Abdirahman Mohamed Anas, expressed their appreciation to the World Food Programme (WFP) for its prompt response regarding the 2024 Financial Audit results and the implementation of the Auditor General’s recommendations.
