OAGS Convenes Government Coordination Meeting to Strengthen 2025 Audit Preparedness

The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia (OAGS) convened a high-level Government Audit Coordination Meeting in Mogadishu, bringing together public institutions included in the 2025 Annual Audit Plan. The meeting aimed to strengthen inter-institutional coordination, enhance audit preparedness, and promote effective collaboration between OAGS and the entities scheduled for audit throughout the year.

During the session, OAGS provided a comprehensive overview of its legal mandate, its constitutional role in safeguarding public resources, and the importance of transparency and accountability as pillars of good governance. Participating institutions were also briefed on the types of audits planned for 2025, expectations during the audit process, and the key documentation and data required to ensure a smooth and efficient review.

Particular emphasis was placed on fostering structured communication and cooperation to prevent misunderstandings, delays, or procedural challenges. Institutions were encouraged to designate an official focal point to coordinate audit-related matters and to ensure senior leadership engagement throughout the process. This approach is intended to facilitate timely audits and produce actionable findings that contribute to institutional improvement.

The meeting was officially closed by the Deputy Auditor General, Mr. Mukhtar Mohamed Abukar, who commended the active participation of government entities and underscored the importance of collaboration and readiness.

“An audit is not merely a procedural obligation” he stated. “It is an opportunity to strengthen institutional systems and safeguard public resources. Preparedness, coordination, and constructive engagement are the foundation of an effective audit that delivers meaningful results” he added.

The coordination forum reflects OAGS’s continued commitment to promoting accountability, enhancing audit effectiveness, and reinforcing sound public financial management across government institutions.
