Mogadishu, 25 Febuary, 2026: The Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Issa Gutale, accompanied by Deputy Auditor General Mukhtar Mohamed Abuukar and senior officials of the Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAGS), held a strategic high-level meeting with H.E. Wang Yu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia.
The engagement marked an important step toward deepening institutional cooperation between the two countries in the field of public-sector auditing. Discussions centered on advancing professional capacity development, enhancing technical expertise, and expanding academic opportunities for the professionals of the OAGS.
A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of postgraduate scholarship opportunities at Nanjing Audit University, one of China’s leading institutions specializing in audit and public finance. The initiative aims to equip professionals of OAGS with advanced knowledge, modern audit methodologies, and leadership skills necessary to strengthen public financial oversight in Somalia.
Both sides underscored the strategic importance of fostering closer collaboration between the Supreme Audit Institutions of Somalia and China. The partnership is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, promote best practices, and reinforce oversight mechanisms to safeguard public resources and enhance accountability.
The Auditor General expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of China for its continued and valuable support to Somalia, particularly in institutional development and human capital strengthening. He also commended the facilitation role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in making the engagement possible.
Somalia and China share longstanding diplomatic relations dating back to 1960, built on mutual respect, cooperation, and a shared commitment to sustainable development.
