Somalia Engages in ARABOSAI General Assembly, Enhancing Regional Oversight Collaboration

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, December 2-4, 2025: The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia has taken part in the 15th General Assembly of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), which concluded on Thursday in Jeddah. Somalia’s delegation was led by the Auditor General, H.E. Ahmed Issa Gutale.

The three-day gathering, hosted by Saudi Arabia’s General Court of Audit (GCA) from 2 to 4 December, brought together leaders of supreme audit institutions from 22 Arab states, along with representatives from regional and international bodies.

The Assembly approved a series of decisions and recommendations aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening governance practices, and deepening cooperation on capacity-building among member institutions. Officials said the measures are expected to raise the quality of audit work and reinforce oversight mechanisms across the region.

One of the most notable announcements was Saudi Arabia’s second term as Chair of the ARABOSAI Governing Board, with the GCA set to continue hosting all organizational meetings until 2028.

A technical symposium was held alongside the Assembly, drawing experts from across the Arab world. Discussions centred on best practices in institutional capacity building, and participants produced a series of recommendations designed to enhance professional competencies and increase the impact of training programmes within member SAIs.

On the sidelines of the event, Somalia’s Auditor General held bilateral meetings with several counterparts from the region. Talks focused on expanding cooperation, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and supporting Somalia’s ongoing efforts in the digital transformation of public-sector auditing.

In a statement, the Office of the Auditor General of Somalia said its participation reflects its commitment to playing an active role within the Arab oversight community and to advancing transparency, good governance, and institutional reform at the national level.
