Nairobi, Kenya, October 13-16, 2025: The Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAGS) has taken a major step forward in strengthening its institutional capacity, participating in a Strategic Management Workshop organized by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 13 to 16, 2025.

The workshop, a cornerstone in OAGS’s ongoing reform and modernization journey, focused on building the Office’s ability to plan, monitor, and deliver its strategic objectives more effectively. It also aimed to enhance accountability mechanisms and improve the follow-up of audit recommendations across public institutions. Through this training, OAGS officials gained advanced knowledge and practical skills in two critical areas:

1. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) mechanisms for tracking progress under the OAGS Strategic Plan.
2. Follow-up systems for ensuring the timely implementation of audit recommendations.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions, case studies, and knowledge-sharing exercises designed to translate strategy into measurable results. The SAI Kenya team enriched the program by sharing their own experiences and lessons learned in strategic management, offering real-world perspectives from within the region.

The OAGS delegation, in turn, showcased its evolving framework for tracking and implementing audit recommendations, a system that is gradually transforming the way Somalia’s public sector institutions respond to audit findings and improve service delivery.

Finally, participants underscored the workshop’s transformative impact, noting that the experience deepened their understanding of performance management, institutional accountability, and strategic alignment.

This workshop represents a significant milestone in the partnership between OAGS and IDI, reinforcing their shared vision of promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance through strong, independent, and credible public audit institutions.
