OAGS Participates in High-Level Performance Audit Forum in Stockholm

Sweden, Stockholm, 16-20 February, 2026: The Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAGS) actively participated in a high-level international workshop convening Heads and senior leaders of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to advance the development and impact of Performance Auditing. The strategic engagement took place in Stockholm, Sweden, in mid-February.

Hosted by the Swedish National Audit Office, the five-day workshop brought together representatives from 17 countries across Africa and Europe for in-depth deliberations on strengthening the planning, design, and execution of Performance Audits. Discussions emphasized modern and innovative methodologies, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance audit quality, analytical depth, and measurable impact.

The Somali delegation was led by the Deputy Auditor General for Audit Services, Mr. Mukhtar Mohamed Abuukar. During the forum, the delegation presented key Performance Audit reports issued by OAGS, highlighting their contribution to improving public administration, strengthening accountability, and enhancing government service delivery. The delegation also reaffirmed OAGS’ firm commitment to aligning its Performance Auditing practices with international standards and global best practices.

A central outcome of the workshop was the agreement on enhanced quality benchmarks designed to improve the effectiveness and relevance of Performance Audit reports. These standards aim to ensure that audit recommendations are actionable, evidence-based, and capable of driving meaningful institutional reform.

OAGS’ participation underscores Somalia’s expanding engagement in international audit cooperation and reflects the country’s continued dedication to innovation, professional excellence, and the safeguarding of public resources through impactful oversight.
