Mogadishu, Somalia, 13–14 July 2026: The Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAGS) and Egypt’s Accountability State Authority (ASA) have concluded a joint anti-corruption training programme aimed at strengthening public sector oversight, enhancing institutional capacity, and expanding cooperation between the two Supreme Audit Institutions.
The workshop, titled “Anti-Corruption Strategies,” brought together officials from the Office of the Auditor General, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Ministry of Finance of Somalia.
The programme was officially opened by the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Isse Gutale, who described the initiative as an important investment in strengthening the skills and institutional capacity required to prevent and combat corruption. Egypt’s Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Salah Hassan Keshtah, highlighted the importance of technical cooperation, professional knowledge exchange, and closer collaboration between the two countries’ oversight institutions.
During the four-day programme, participants examined the causes and impact of corruption, good governance principles, international anti-corruption frameworks, and national strategies for strengthening accountability. Sessions were delivered by ASA specialists, who shared practical experience and international approaches to promoting integrity and improving public sector oversight.
The training concluded with remarks from Somalia’s Deputy Auditor General, Mr. Mukhtar Mohamed Abukar, who emphasised the importance of continuous professional development and international cooperation in strengthening public institutions and reinforcing accountability.
Participants welcomed the programme, noting that it enhanced their understanding of corruption risks, prevention measures, and governance practices. The training forms part of the broader technical cooperation between OAGS and ASA to strengthen professional capacity, promote knowledge exchange, and support stronger public financial oversight and good governance.
