Somalia’s Auditor General Signs EAC Audit Reports, Strengthening Regional Accountability.
Mogadishu, 5 October 2026 – The Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Isse Gutale, has signed audit reports covering institutions and regional programmes of the East African Community (EAC), of which Somalia is a member.
The reports cover key EAC organs and institutions, including the EAC Secretariat, the East African Legislative Assembly, the East African Court of Justice, the Inter-University Council for East Africa, specialised commissions, institutions responsible for the Lake Victoria Basin and fisheries, and the regional civil aviation safety and security oversight agency.
The audit work includes special audits, Information Systems Audits and a Performance Audit related to the East African Monetary Union, together with relevant management letters.
Somalia’s participation in this regional audit process strengthens its role within the EAC accountability framework. It also supports professional cooperation, shared audit approaches and institutional learning among the Supreme Audit Institutions of EAC Partner States.
For Somali citizens, stronger regional oversight contributes to ensuring that resources administered through EAC institutions and programmes are managed transparently, responsibly and with a clear focus on results. Effective audit also promotes stronger institutional performance and better delivery of regional initiatives relating to education, trade, transport, health, environmental management, civil aviation and economic integration.
The engagement further provides SAI Somalia with opportunities to strengthen the capacity of its auditors in areas such as regional institutional auditing, Information Systems Audit and Performance Audit. These competencies are increasingly important as Somalia expands its participation in regional programmes and accountability arrangements.
The signing of the reports reflects SAI Somalia’s continued commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and sound public financial management at both national and regional levels.
