Accra, 9 May 2023: Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAGS) has signed a two-year trilateral Cooperation Agreement with INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) and the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) on the sidelines of the AFROSAI-E Governing Board Meeting held in Accra, Republic of Ghana.
Funded by the Norway Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the peer-support project enables the OAGS to implement key strategic priorities outlined in the new five-year Strategic Plan 2023-2027. Since 2017, the peer partners have been providing critical hands-on and tailored technical support that allowed the Office to become a locally credible and internationally relevant Supreme Audit Institution (SAI). Specifically, the peer project focused on high-priority strategic goals, including enhancing audit capacity and streams, internal governance and quality management, stakeholder relations as well as modernization of the outdated legal framework.
Hailing the agreement as an integral part of OAGS’ success and ability to implement critical goals, Auditor General Avv. General Ahmed Isse Gutale has remarked that “The new Strategic Plan 2023-2027 is both ambitious and a reflection of the progress that this Office has made over the years. Therefore, your support under this peer-project agreement is instrumental to our efforts to implement our strategic goals in the next five years successfully.”
On their part, the peer partners represented by Meisie Nkau, Chief Executive Officer of AFROSAI-E, and Ola Hoem, Deputy Director General of IDI, have expressed their commitment to continuing support for the OAGS in critical areas of its operations, further noting the importance of sustaining the productive and dynamic collaborations between the partners.
Present in the signing ceremony were also peer-SAIs, including representatives from SAI Malawi, SAI Uganda, and SAI Sweden (as an observer) who have been part of the OAGS Support Ecosystem Framework.
