Mogadishu, Somalia, 12 October 2026 – The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia (SAI Somalia) has launched a special audit of the School Grants Program under the Somalia Education for Human Capital Development Project (SEHCDP). The audit aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the effective management of financial grants provided to schools across Somalia.
The Auditor General, H.E. Ahmed Isse Gutale, officially launched the audit following a request from the Federal Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education. The exercise will assess how education grants are administered, managed, and used to support school operations and improve education service delivery.
The launch meeting brought together the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator for the Banadir Region, and principals from six schools included in the audit. Participants discussed the audit objectives, scope, procedures, and coordination arrangements necessary for its effective implementation.
During the meeting, the Auditor General emphasized the importance of transparent financial management and ensuring education grants are used for their intended purposes. He highlighted the role of independent oversight in safeguarding education resources, improving service delivery, and strengthening public confidence in the management of development funds.

The findings will also help promote greater fairness and transparency in the allocation and management of school grants, ensuring education investments better serve the needs of children and their communities.
Project representatives and school principals welcomed the initiative and expressed their commitment to supporting the audit process by providing relevant information, financial records, and supporting documentation.
Upon completion, SAI Somalia will issue a special audit report outlining its findings and recommendations to address identified weaknesses, strengthen financial controls, and improve accountability in the management of school grants.
