Somalia’s Auditor General Takes Part in High-Level AFROSAI-E Governing Board Meeting

Manrovia, Liberia, 18-22 May, 2026: The Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Isse Gutale, has led a delegation to the 22nd AFROSAI-E Governing Board Meeting and 2026 Strategic Review held in Monrovia, Liberia, from 18 to 22 May 2026.

The high-level regional meeting brought together Auditors General, delegations from Supreme Audit Institutions across Africa, and international development partners to discuss emerging priorities in public sector auditing and accountability.

The event, organised by the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), focused on strengthening audit quality, enhancing institutional cooperation, and promoting knowledge exchange among member institutions.

During the week-long sessions, delegates discussed the growing role of Data Analytics in public sector auditing and practical approaches to auditing public debt to strengthen accountability and fiscal sustainability. According to the official programme, the Strategic Review was held under the theme “Value-Adding Audits”.

The Somali delegation actively participated in technical discussions, peer-learning sessions, and collaboration engagements with fellow Supreme Audit Institutions and partner organisations. The discussions examined how audit institutions can improve audit impact, strengthen knowledge transfer, and respond to evolving fiscal risks through modern audit practices.

AFROSAI-E stated that the meeting aimed to reflect strategic priorities, share practical audit experiences, and strengthen cooperation within the regional audit community.

The programme included presentations and experience-sharing sessions on the use of Data Analytics in auditing, alongside discussions on how public debt audits can better support fiscal decision-making and accountability.

For Somalia’s Office of the Auditor General, the meeting provided an opportunity to deepen professional cooperation with regional counterparts, exchange institutional experiences, and remain informed about emerging practices within the Supreme Audit Institution community.
